3D Printed Phone Holder

The Problem

I really hate most phone holders for cars. The ones that stick on the window invariable don’t stick and then the sucker bit goes all gooey in the sun after a while. The vent ones never stay in place because they don’t seem to be the right shape for any of the cars I’ve owned. We have a motorhome with an Android Auto head unit that you plug your phone into. So I don’t need to see the screen of the phone, I just want the phone held securely while driving.

The Solution

I’m getting more and more into using Fusion 360 now. Confident enough that I can design simple models from scratch. This went through a couple of iterations until I found what I wanted. I bought a bare wireless charger from Amazon for £8 and designed the phone holder around that. So the phone slots neatly into the holder and charges from the wireless charge that you can just about see inside the slot on the images here. The charger is wired into the ignition live on the motorhome via a 12v to 5v transformer and it all works really nicely.
